Burncoat Family Center

Community Healthlink’s Youth and Family Services established the Burncoat Family Center in October of 1992 as a residential and day treatment program for children with serious emotional concerns. Today, the Burncoat Family Center is a CBAT (Community Based Acute Treatment) Program with the goal of providing quality mental health care while keeping children out of psychiatric hospitals.  Located in a residential area of Worcester, Massachusetts, the Burncoat Family Center provides safe, therapeutic, short-term mental health treatment to children from all over Massachusetts.

The Burncoat Family Center provides a multi-disciplinary approach to mental health care.  Treatment for each child includes individual and group therapy, medication evaluation and stabilization, educational services provided by a licensed teacher, psycho-educational groups and a therapeutic milieu.  The program, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, accommodates up to 15 clients at a time with an average stay of 10-14 days (this timeline may vary based on individual client needs).

Burncoat Family Center utilizes a Trauma Informed model that allows for each child’s needs to be assessed and met while maintaining the safety and consistency of a structured milieu.  BFC focuses on helping clients and their families build skills, use existing tools and access services so that mental health treatment can be achieved outside of a 24-hour setting.

Children ages 4 through 18, who exhibit acute mental health symptoms reside in the program. They are referred by local Emergency Rooms or Mobile Crisis Services. The Burncoat Family Center is funded by insurance companies.  For a complete list of insurance companies we work with or if you have questions about our program, please call us at 508-853-6988.
