Community Healthlink has just been awarded nearly $4 million dollars from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to increase access to and to improve the quality of community mental and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services through the expansion of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs).

CCBHCs provide person- and family-centered integrated services. CCBHCs provide community access to services – including 24/7 crisis intervention services. CHL's project, called "Expanding Access to Quality Community Behavioral Health Care" will provide high-quality behavioral health care services to individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) or substance use disorders (SUD), including opioid use disorders (OUD); children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance (SED); and individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance disorders (COD) in the cities of Worcester and Leominster, in Central Massachusetts.

The overarching goals of our project are to increase access to the full range of community behavioral health services that we offer and to improve the behavioral health and quality of life for people in Worcester and Leominster, MA through the certification of CHL as a CCBHC and the expansion of our community behavioral health clinic services.

Our project will:

  • increase CHL's screening, assessment, and referral capacity
  • increase care coordination
  • increase access to medication assisted treatment (MAT)
  • improve access to integrated care by providing primary care screening and monitoring for children with serious emotional disturbance
  • increase mental health peer support in our adult outpatient settings
  • increase the level of functioning for individuals who receive CCBHC services from CHL

As part of our efforts to increase access, we will be unveiling a new phone system that will help cut through the confusion of finding behavioral health help. Clients can call -- any day, anytime -- and an intake coordinator will expedite requests for help to a clinician and case manager within one business day for urgent requests, and within 10 business days for routine requests.

As our project gets underway we will continue to share news and updates.
